Short answer

Log in to SPAR’s e-service with a Swedish e-ID, or email or write to SPAR, and you get a register extract at your registered address. It shows which companies got your details in the last 12 months. Then you can contact them, and block advertising in SPAR and telemarketing with NIX.

SPAR, the state population address register, holds details about everyone registered in Sweden and is updated every day. Companies buy details from it. With a register extract (registerutdrag), you can see which ones.

What’s in SPAR?

Your name, personal identity number, date of birth, address, place of registration, registered place of birth (födelsehemort) and citizenship, and who your spouse, partner or guardian is. It also holds your total income and whether you own a house. SPAR may only give income and property details to the Police, the Security Service and Customs, but names and addresses are sold to companies. More about what’s in SPAR.

How to order the register extract

The extract is always sent to your registered address.

What the extract shows

  • what SPAR holds about you
  • which companies and organisations have received details about you in the last 12 months.

If a law enforcement authority has received details about you, it isn’t shown, as that may be confidential.

What to do with the list

  1. Ask the companies what they hold about you. Under the GDPR, you have the right to know what details a company holds about you.
  2. Ask them to stop sending advertising. According to SPAR, your details may not be used for addressed advertising if you ask in writing for them to be blocked.
  3. Block advertising in SPAR. With an advertising block (reklamspärr, in Swedish), SPAR doesn’t give out your address for addressed advertising. The block stays until you remove it, and according to SPAR it can take up to three months before you notice a difference.
  4. Block telemarketing with NIX. In NIX-Telefon (in Swedish) you can block both landlines and mobiles. According to NIX, it costs nothing beyond the cost of the call, and the block applies until further notice.

What SPAR doesn’t stop

An advertising block only covers advertising with SPAR as the address source. People-search sites like Ratsit and Hitta have their own details, and you remove yourself on each site. How to do it on every site.

If you’ve moved abroad, your details stay in SPAR for five years after the move. Read about removing yourself without BankID.

Questions

What does the register extract show?

What SPAR holds about you, and which companies and organisations have received details about you in the last 12 months. Law enforcement authorities aren’t shown.

Can I order it without BankID?

Yes. Email kundtjanst@statenspersonadressregister.se or write to Skatteverket SPAR, 205 30 Malmö, with your name and personal identity number or coordination number. The extract is sent to your registered address.

Does an advertising block stop the people-search sites?

No. The advertising block only covers addressed advertising with SPAR as the address source. You remove yourself from the people-search sites on the sites.

What do I do with the list of companies?

You can ask the companies what they hold about you, ask them to delete it, or ask them to stop sending advertising. According to SPAR, your details may not be used for addressed advertising if you ask in writing for them to be blocked.
