Can you remove yourself from the internet in Sweden? Ratsit, MrKoll and Hitta

Läs på svenska

Short answer

Not from the whole internet: your details stay on record at the Swedish Tax Agency, where anyone can ask for your address. But you can remove yourself from Ratsit, MrKoll, Hitta and the other sites, for free. With BankID, the big five take about 20 minutes.

Ratsit, MrKoll, Hitta and similar sites show the address, age and often the phone number of almost everyone who lives in Sweden. The data comes from public authorities, where it’s public, so you can’t disappear from the internet completely. But almost all of these sites let you remove or hide yourself, and it costs nothing. Here’s how, site by site.

The sites, one at a time

Start with the big five: Ratsit, MrKoll, Hitta, Merinfo and Eniro. With BankID they take about 20 minutes in all.

SiteHow to remove yourselfHow long
RatsitBankIDUp to 24 hours
MrKollBankID (our guide)Immediately
HittaBankIDA few hours
MerinfoBankIDImmediately
EniroBankIDA few minutes

LöniaGDPR requestWithin 14 days

Good to know:

  • Merinfo: choose “Radera min profil helt” (delete my profile completely). When you’re done, an “Återaktivera profil” (reactivate profile) button appears. Don’t press it, or you’ll be published again.
  • Eniro: press “Dölj mig” (hide me), then “Ja, dölj” (yes, hide). This hides your whole profile and can’t be undone.
  • Hitta: find yourself on the page and click “Ta bort” (remove).
  • Birthday replies to your email with a link to a service called Mina Uppgifter, where you log in with BankID. Say no to the extras for 99 kr a year; you don’t need them.
  • Lönia only removes details for people with a protected identity, for people who have died, or when something is wrong. You can still send a GDPR request, and a no is also a reply worth keeping.
  • Mantal only shows test data for now, but you can ask them in advance not to show you.
  • RaderaNamn, despite its name (“delete name”), is a people-search site that charges 499 kr to remove you. Don’t pay. Send a free GDPR request instead.
  • Ratsit, MrKoll and Merinfo warn that companies using their data, for deliveries or background checks for example, may find it harder to look you up once you’ve removed yourself.

Without BankID

Several sites accept email or post instead:

  • Ratsit: email kundservice@ratsit.se.
  • Merinfo: send their form to info@merinfo.se.
  • Hitta: post a copy of your ID to Hittapunktse AB, Kundservice, Sankt Eriksgatan 119, 113 43 Stockholm.
  • MrKoll: email them and ask how you can prove your identity without BankID. Keep their replies.
  • The others: send an erasure request under the GDPR. Kolla själv writes it for you, and you send it from your own email.

Many sites say the GDPR doesn’t apply to them because they hold a publishing certificate (utgivningsbevis). Where the law stands now.

Phone numbers, court records, companies and cars

Kolla själv only includes these sites if they apply to you.

  • Phone numbers. Truecaller and Sync.me remove your number through a form within 24 hours. Truecaller’s unlisting can’t be undone. 180.se has no tool of its own, so email them. Also ask your operator for an unlisted number: then it isn’t passed on, and it won’t come back. Here’s how.
  • Court records. Lexbase, Krimfup, Verifiera, Acta Publica and Fuplex show court rulings. None of them has a button to remove you, but you can request erasure under the GDPR. Krimfup only accepts requests by post. Never click “Begär handling” (request document) on Krimfup: it makes Krimfup fetch court records about that name.
  • Companies. Allabolag doesn’t remove board roles. If you’re a sole trader, you can change your business address at Bolagsverket so that your home address stops showing. Bolagsfakta takes erasure requests by email. Their contact form asks for your personal identity number, so email instead.
  • Cars. Biluppgifter and Car.info show who owns a car. Neither has a way to hide the owner, but you can send a GDPR request.

Google and Bing

After you’ve removed yourself from a site, the search result can stay on Google for a while. You can ask Google to remove results that show your address or phone number, and Google can approve it even when the site itself says no. In Results about you you can follow your requests. Bing has its own form for people in the EU. Here’s how.

What remains

  • The public records. Your address stays on record at Skatteverket, and anyone can ask for it, even after you’ve removed yourself from the sites.
  • Real protection. Protected personal data (sekretessmarkering or skyddad folkbokföring) is the only thing that hides you everywhere. You apply to Skatteverket and need to show that you’re under threat. Read more.
  • New details. If you move or get a new number, you can show up again. Check again after a move. Kolla själv can add a reminder to your calendar.

In short

  1. Check where you’re listed. Kolla själv builds ready-made searches on each site.
  2. Remove yourself from the sites you’re on, using the links above.
  3. Ask Google to remove search results that remain.
  4. Ask your operator for an unlisted number.
  5. Check again after a move.

Questions

Can you remove yourself completely from the internet?

No. Your details stay on record at Skatteverket and other authorities, and anyone can ask for your address. But you can remove yourself from the sites that show your details, and ask Google to remove the search results.

Does it cost anything to remove yourself?

No. All the sites here let you remove or hide yourself for free. Don’t pay for something you can do yourself. RaderaNamn, for example, charges 499 kr.

How long does it take?

With BankID, the five big sites take about 20 minutes in all. MrKoll and Merinfo remove you immediately, Eniro within minutes, Hitta within a few hours and Ratsit within 24 hours.

Can I do it without BankID?

Yes, on several sites. Ratsit accepts email, Merinfo a form by email, and Hitta a copy of your ID by post. To the others you can send an erasure request under the GDPR.

Can the sites say no?

Yes. Most say the GDPR doesn’t apply to them. Since the EU Court’s ruling in July 2026 they stand on weaker ground, but the question isn’t settled. Keep their replies.

Can my details come back?

Yes, for example when you move or get a new phone number. Ask your operator for an unlisted number, and check again after a move.
